IMPORTANT DATES for 2025
COME FROM AWAY is a Canadian musical with book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. It tells the true story of what happened in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland in the days following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. When U.S. airspace was closed, 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers from around the worldwere unexpectedly diverted to Gander, nearly doubling the town’s population overnight.

The musical focuses on how the residents of Gander and surrounding communities welcomed these “come from aways” (Newfoundlander slang for outsiders), offering food, shelter, and kindness during a moment of global crisis. Through multiple interwoven storylines, we see cultural clashes, moments of fear and grief, but also unexpected friendships, love, and deep humanity that arose in the aftermath.

Since its debut in 2013 and subsequent Broadway run in 2017, Come From Away has been widely praised for its heartwarming portrayal of compassion and resilience. It received seven Tony Award nominations (winning Best Direction), the Olivier Award for Best New Musical, and has been staged internationally.

This will be the Sunshine Coast Premier of this Musical.

CAMP CRIKEY - Junior Actors

Saturday 6th December at 10.30am and 1.pm

COSTUMES: All ‘campers” wear their everyday wear as if they were going to a school camp. Those working at the camp ie Arabella, Harper, Hamish wear something specific to their role.

Students are required 1 hour before each performance and can go home after their first show and return.

Friends and family welcome to attend.

On the day children are to bring any costume they have been given, or accessories as mentioned below. Please come with your hair and basic make-up done for the run.

COSTUME INFORMATION

IPA- ( Thursday class) The youngest students at BYTES are Munchkins and Snowflakes

BYTES will supply their Munchkin Costume and their Silver Snowflake Costume

WHAT DO PARENTS NEED TO SUPPLY?

Black jazz shoes or canvas shoes or ballet shoes

Accessories- Ribbons for hair for the Munchkin scene.

HAIR- ( GIRLS) Please put hair in two buns on either side of their head or two piggy tails curled.

JUNIORS ( Monday Class) Juniors are Munchkins, Poppies and Monkeys

BYTES will supply the children’s Munchkin Costume , Red Poppy bottom and head piece, Monkey hat and wings.

WHAT DO PARENTS NEED TO SUPPLY?

Girls to wear Black Stockings and black jazz Shoes. Girls will need either black stockings or leggings and black t shirt to wear under Poppy and Monkey costume.

Boys wear black jazz or canvas shoes. Boys will need either black leggings or pants and black t short to wear under their Poppy and Monkey Costume.

HAIR- ( GIRLS) Please put hair in two buns on either side of their head or two piggy tails curled. If playing a Male role ( ie Mayor) Put hair in low pony tail with a black ribbon.

OPEN / ENSEMBLE STUDIO X / ELEGERIE are jitterbugs, emerald city and winkies

BYTES will supply Jitterbug, Emerald City and Winkie Costume and any of the specialist character costumes.

WHAT DO PARENTS NEED TO SUPPLY?

Black Jazz Shoes

Black stockings for Jitterbugs and Winkies

Flesh coloured stockings for OZ

Appropriate underwear for Emerald City Dresses. Own Emerald City Head Piece.

Black Leggings or pants if you have them.

HAIR - Jitterbugs 2 High buns either side of the head or teased pig tails

Emerald City, slick or styled hair with accessories.

Winkies- ( You will wear a fur hat so you will need to have hair pulled back in low bun.

ONLY MUNCHKIN COSTUMES CAN LEAVE THE THEATRE- POPPIES, CROWS, MONKEYS, EMERALD CITY and JITTERBUGS and ANY SHARED COSTUMES MUST STAY AT THE THEATRE

ON THE DAY OF THE REHEARSALS and SHOWS, Bring all your required pieces in a small plastic box or clothes bag. It is always a good idea to have a small kit with bobby pins and safety pins and brush, hair accessories etc.

When booking your seats , you will need to ensure that you are booking for the Cast of your child.

YELLOW CAST are the Juniors and IPAS Studio X and Open Musical as listed

( Please note however that Studio X Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Lion will perform 1 show with Yellow and 1 show with Emerald.)
